The ten-pound bike.

I initiated the ten-pound bicycle concept and led a team in the development of Émonda. The target concerned a complete bicycle, rather than an isolated frame weight.

Brief and contribution

The product target

Work toward a ten-pound complete road bicycle. The frame, fork and the components assembled around them all contributed to the final weight.

My contribution

I spearheaded the concept and led a development team. That work sat within my broader experience in composite design, materials, testing and manufacturing development.

The structure inside the shape.

The original SLR used Trek’s 700 Series OCLV carbon. The launch account connects the low-weight objective with carbon layup development. The published component breakdown also shows why the frame alone could not describe the finished result.

The complete bicycle supplied the program’s visible outcome. My contribution was initiating the concept and leading a team through development; the result was delivered through the work of the wider product team.
